~Training through
point-situation drills with team oriented match play and concluding with tennis games and fitness work. Food for the players
following the on-court session or snacks during a break will be provided depending on the schedule.
Directed by Greg
Hiers and the NTA's Junior Competitive Specialist, Pat Colbert. Assisted on-court with other highly qualified and experienced
coaches and club pros when needed.
*Selection: Because there are no 10s rankings, selection based on ability level
will be a bit more subjective compared to the 12s - 14s CTC's. It is important we have the top, most dedicated players participate
to accomplish USTA goals (see below) for this program. We will make email contacts with parents and players and accept entrees
on a first-come-first-serve basis. If we get to our limit, the following selection criteria will be used: 1. If two players
are of similar ability with one being older, the older player will be chosen. 2. Also, if two players are of similar ability
with one participating in tournaments and the other not, the tournament player will be chosen. 3. Players from the area
which the CTC is being held may get priority (or possibly a certain number of spots) to give those from all around the Section
a chance to participate. 4. Those who have participated in or on a waitlist for a past CTC will be emailed first regarding
registration. We look forward to offering this exciting new USTA/Northern Section program!
From
the United States Tennis Association (USTA): "When we started the USTA Competition Training Centers in 1988, we all knew
that the concept of bringing together our very best players to train together was a great plan. Since that time we have tried
to provide all of the coaches involved in the program with the latest in sport science and technical coaching developments.
Many
of our best young professional players have gone through our CTC programs and thus we have to thank you the coaches involved
in the program. This program reaches the largest number of High Performance junior players and since the inception of this
program you have assisted in the development of thousands of junior tennis players.
Our continued goal is to develop
the base of great junior tennis players from the United States. Each year the CTC program assists to reach approximately 2000
of our best young junior players. Therefore it is important that we continue to challenge ourselves to develop as coaches
so that we can help our best young players become as good as they desire. As well, we need to continually challenge these
good young players so that they too can become the best possible players that than can be."
